Bridge Builder

After 15 years of work as a musician, I decided it was time to go back to the source and reflect on the songs that inspired me to pursue a creative path as a musician. My spectrum of influence is as varied as the cultures in our world, but my understanding of music is very rooted in the Jazz tradition, and I felt it was necessary to pay homage to the songs I first learned as a child. This album is an exploration of connection points between past and present in my life, Obstacles I’ve faced along the journey, and the bridges that span the gaps between. And so the Journey Continues.

Calin Matei was born in the Romani village of Dumbraveni, Romania & raised in the US. Embracing his heritage as a Roma, Calin's songs possess a dissonant, harrowing sound that speaks of the long & mysterious history of his race.
